INGREDIENTS
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ cup scallions
- 2 tsp butter
- 1¼ cup long grain rice
- ½ tsp gram masala
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 clove of garlic
TOOLS
- 1 knife
- 1 saucepan
- 1 lid
- 1 wooden spoon
- 1 plate
STEPS
Trim scallions (top). Cut the trimmed scallions. Peel and mince the garlic.
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir the onion slices into the saucepan with a wooden spoon. Add long-grain rice, garam masala, cayenne pepper, and minced garlic in a saucepan. Optionally, add half a teaspoon of salt. Stir one more with a wooden spoon. Slowly add 2 cups of water, stirring frequently, until the rice has absorbed all the water (about 1 minute). Reduce the heat to low and cover with a lid. Cook for 20 minutes, then remove from the heat. Allow the rice to steam for another 10 minutes in the covered saucepan. Take off the lid.
To serve, transfer the cooked white rice to a plate.
