INGREDIENTS
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup shortening
- 1 apple
- 1 tbsp butter

STEPS
Peel an apple.
Cut the apple in half, remove the seeds and chop it.
Heat shortening in a saucepan for 2 minutes until it melts.
Combine cornmeal, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and 1 tsp of salt in a bowl with a whisk to get a cornmeal mixture.
Crack eggs in a bowl, add whole milk and whisk, then add melted shortening. Add cornmeal mixture and apples, then stir to get a batter.
Grease a cake pan with butter and transfer the batter to it.
Preheat the oven to 425°F for 12-15 minutes.
Put the cake pan in the oven and bake it for 25 minutes.
Take the cake pan out of the oven. Transfer the apple cornbread to a platter and set it aside for 15 minutes.
